Fedora 18 does not recognize SiS 6326 video card

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I have a quad core AMD system , recent motherboard, but I have installed old SiS 6362 video card with 8MB RAM. When I run Fedora 18 livecd when it starts X the monitor starts flashing a lot and no graphic environment is initialized. I have seen the logs but can't find anything. How to debug this? Where could be the problem.

These are the last lines in Xorg.0.log and I also attach full logfile.

Fedora 18 live CD is probably too much for that old card to handle, could you please list your hardware aspects?

You don't have xf86-video-sis installed

Code:

[    14.926] (EE) Failed to load module "sis" (module does not exist, 0)
[    14.926] (II) LoadModule: "vesa"

You need to posts the contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or wherever your xorg configuration may reside).

SiS 6326

is very old , it was introduced in 1997
good for a windows 95 or 98 box at the time

there looks like there might be an ancient 2.4 kernel driver for the very dead RH 7 and 9

install windows 98 on this old box

John VV didn't read the thread...

I can't criticise - because I often don't read the thread either...

A better thing to say would be: throw out the 6326 and just use the onboard graphics - if there are no onboard graphics then just go on ebay and pick up any graphics card for 5 which is likely to be better than a 6326...

As an ex-SiS 6326 owner I would second caravel's recommendation. It's a piece of <expletive deleted> from the bad old days in SiS. they have got more respectable since. Installing video-sis might get you going, but it's better disabled/in the bin. And I don't say that often. You can pick up an old cards for a pittance on ebay.
