Fedora 12 - Print from Windows Printing Server

I have installed Fedora 12 with latest updates. My problem is printing from Winstar Networking USB 2.0 Server (WS-NSU62P). This device is attached with LAN cable to Windows XP machine. HP LaserJet 2200d is connected on WS-NSU62P with USB cable. This printer works fine with Windows clients (when you add printer with standard procudure for WinXP OS). Before adding the printer I have to install some drivers witch i found on install cd. I didn't found any drivers for Linux. Specification has info about supported protocol on WS-NSU62P (Network Protocol IPX, TCP/IP, NETBUEI, APPLETALK, LPR, smb (Over IP) )

How to set my Printer configuration in Fedora 12 to enable printing from HP LaserJet 2200d connected on Winstar Networking USB 2.0 Server (WS-NSU62P)?

Your question really should be "How can my Fedora box print to a Windows print server". The hardware you've got isn't really an issue...all the printer's will be advertised via the Windows box...the Winstar box is invisible.

You should be able to run (as root) "system-config-printer" from the command line. Select "New Printer" - and then "LPD/LPR Host or Printer". At that point, you enter the appropriate Windows print server information. This page:

http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Lin....html#PRINTING

has info about that. Been a VERY long time since I've had to deal with Windows.

I said something incorrect in my first post

This device is attached with LAN cable to Windows XP machine.
The device is not connected to PC but it is connected to Switch. This link http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Lin....html#PRINTING doesn't help me to much. I described my problem with full detail in http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=244536 (name of the post is Fedora 12 - Print from Windows Printing Server). Some help from Linux guru is needed here.

Please help me I try everything but I can not find a solution

If you need help HERE, post your question HERE. We're not going to go chasing your question around to answer it for you.

Your printer is a network printer. You need to set up a network printer, and the link I sent you, tells you how to set up a network printer. Not sure what else we can do to help you.

TB0ne,

I think that you've missed the question. Your links refer to a SAMBA environment, and what vali is asking for help with is connecting to a firmware LPR USB print server from a company called Winstar. The connection is via Ethernet, the device is designed to offer an ethernet interface for a USB printer. It is not a SAMBA server, it is an LPR server, but it does not behave well when you try to connect from linux (I am a Ubuntu user, but same issue).

Any advice not centered around SAMBA would be appreciated.

cheers

That's how to set up a remote LPR printer, not Samba, right??? And if the OP is printing to a Windows box, then connecting via Samba will let that Windows-only printer be visible. Plus, the original post was from the end of April, and the OP hasn't been back since 5/20...

Fair enough, you did mention LPR/LPD and the method you offer will work if you run a GUI. I confess that I missed it because of all the references to Windows boxes and Windows print servers. Although it's an RFC standard I tend to think of LPR/LPD as Linux-centric (I don't do Apple).

Meanwhile I've found the config needed: by checking my dhcpd.leases file I found the sneaky little box had picked up an address from my LAMP server, so instead of using the hostname specified in the instructions I locked down the IP allocated to the MAC of the printserver and then used the IP as the hostname with the queue set to PASSTHROUGH. This works for me, ymmv (in case OP ever comes back).

cheers
