I've searched and found similar threads, but none close enough to help me. My issue is as follows:
I have a fairly new FC6 installation and wanted to use K3b to copy a data CD. So, I booted the machine and, while it was booting, I opened the drawer of my CD-RW and placed a CD-R on the platter, but did NOT close the drawer. So, the boot process did its thing while the CD-RW drive drawer was open. When I got to my desktop, the CD-RW was automounted, so I closed the drawer. FC6 then proceeded to loop through the following:
Code:
hdc: status error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hdc: drive not ready for command
These messages loop ad infinitum until I reboot. Even when there is no media in the drive, it automounts and I get the messages after reboot. I can't even open the drawer or eject it.
So I tried the unbent paperclip, but the drawer doesn't want to open via that method anymore.
Do you think that a mechanical issue with the drawer might cause these errors? Do you think, if I found the following in etc/modprobe.conf, that it could be the culprit?
Code:
options ide-cd ignore=hdc
I haven't checked etc/modprobe.conf yet, but I found that in a similar thread.
Thanks!
