FC4 on presario m2000

Hi, now I know that there are heaps of posts similar to this... but I have been searching for a week now, and am a newbie and not really been able to find anything that works... so I hope that someone out there might know, I have the onboard sound card intel8x0 AC 97 compatible, but it orginally caused FC4 to freeze up when trying to play any sound, then I tried adding a couple of alias lines in my modprobe.conf:

# start of new hack
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias snd-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
options snd-card-0 index=0

that still didnt work, later i tried using OSS which said that it adjust my alsa card, now I just get an error message saying that no device or volume control, when i start X... any ideas??

Cheers
Tom
