FC4 not recognising RAID1 on Adaptec 1210SA
Hi,
I am in the process of setting up my a file server using FC4. Having got networking and a few other bits setup, I am now trying to get my RAID array working.
I have 2 120GB Seagate disks running on an Adaptec 1210SA SATA RAID controller. The controller is being recognised by Linux and so are the drives. The problem that I'm having is that although the configuration utility for the controller is recognising the RAID1 array, the OS is seeing them as 2 seperate disks (sda and sdb).
I have been searching for a bit now and have found a number of posts saying that the 1210SA isn't a proper hardware RAID card and that you need to setup software RAID on the OS (only when using Linux, apparently Windows sees it "properly")
I have two queries at this point:
Firstly, is it right that the card is not true hardware RAID? The product details on the website describe it as HostRAID that resides in the firmware on the chip, which to me says that I shouldn't need software RAID setting up.
Secondly, if I do need software RAID setting up, how do I go about this on FC4? I am relatively new at Linux, but am picking it up quite quickly so any newbie focused guides would be appreciated.
Edit: Forgot to mention, using 2.6.12 kernel.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice,
PhilHalf
