Fat32 Harddrive errors, causing system instability
Hi Peoples
I have a 120gb fat32 harddrive (one partition) that I used to use as my data drive when i was using windows. however, due to the amount of data I have on there (most of it reasonably important) I didn't format it and backup, because I knew linux supported fat32. However whenever I try to use the drive, (especially opening files through X apps (openoffice,gtkpod,etc...)) It hangs the computer, sometimes it pulls through after a while, and then works normally for a bit. heres the error message from $ dmesg Code:
hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } Redness |
AFAIK,
hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } is caused if your IDE cable is not plugged-in properly into the Harddisk. So check that .If you ask why MS Windoze does'nt complain.....well Windoze works that way. Either way ,the errors seem hardware [ie. ur harddisk ] related.......not something Filesystem related.Check ur cabling and power supply to HD. If I am missing something......thr'll soon be somone more gud replying. |
hmmm my motherboard said that there was a predicted SMART failure just then. so im starting to think my drive is about to die
