Extra Mouse Buttons

Well, I got one of those fun little mice that has more than two buttons. Five, actually. I'm using Kubuntu 6.06 and KDE 3.5.5. It has the two normal ones, a middle one, two extra buttons on the side, and the scrolly wheel clicks sideways in either direction. Any idea how to configure these to do something?

if they don't do anything - you may need to download the newest drivers. What brand of mouse did you get - logitech i hope Once you get the new drivers - there USUALLY is an interface to let you choose how thoes are configured.

Actually, it's Dynex, and there aren't any Linux drivers for it.

EDIT: Well, I guess they all DO do something. Clicking the mouse either way pastes in whatever's on your clipboard, and the two side buttons seem to function just like the main one.

This thread here will give you a good idea of what todo for multi mouse buttons.

The only thing is you will need to play with the 'button #' as your not using logitech, but this will work, i use it on slackware this guide that is.

Thanks! That worked. The button numbers were pretty similar. Just a slight tweak.

EDIT: So, can I do something similar for my keyboard's extra buttons? That would make everything perfect! How can I find the numbers for the buttons?

@stabby:

depending on your keyboard there may already be a project that specializes on the your keyboard, try a web search, or freshmeat's site.
