External USB NumPad giving bad scancodes

I bought a hama slimline keypad SK100 to work with one of my RH EL WS systems.
The USB keypad generally works as I can use the cusor functinality but even though pressing the external keypads NumLock key activates the NUM LED on my main keyboard the external Numpad still does not input the numbers but only the cursor keys.

Checking with xev the keycodes / keysyms are wrong - instead of e.g. keycode 88 (keysm 0xffb2, KP_2) the keycode 104 (keysym 0xff54, Down) is used.

From searching through various forums I have the feeling that the usb keyboard / HID driver is responsible for this wrong mapping.

Does anybody know how to make the work with NumLock switching between cursor and number key functionality?

ThanXs, Peter

PS: Forgot to mention that the keypad works fine running Windows XP
