External USB drive mounting/unmounting

I would like to know if it is possible to mount/umount automatically when I power on/off the external device. I have to mount four partitions (3 fat32 and 1 ntfs) if i have to do it manually.

I put the entries in fstab but I have to mount manually whenever I forget to power on the external device. Also I'm not sure if it is ok if I power off the external device before shutting down the system (It gives errors while unmountinf the file systems).

Any suggestions are welcome
