320 MB Ram
Red Hat 9.0 dual booted with WinXP
kernel version 2.4.20

I've been having numerous problems getting my new Red Hat install to dial-up. I have an internal modem, but after realizing that this was a "winmodem", I went out and got an external serial modem (Trendnet 56k V.90) and have been trying for over an hour to get online.

After connecting the modem, I started the computer and during boot-up Red Hat ran some kind of configuration tool and asked if I wanted to configure the detected modem, naturally I did.

Anyway, after the machine has booted, I ran Internet Configuration Wizard to setup my dial-up connection and it couldn't detect a modem. I ran wvdialconf (which gave me device is busy output). After this I thought that (for some reason) the modem was set to /dev/ttyS3 and I used the Internet Config Wizard to go ahead and set up a connection. I made this connection active. After this I ran wvdialconf again and I received the following output:

Found a modem on /dev/ttyS0.
Modem configuration written to create.

My question(s) is, how do I change my PPP connection from /dev/ttyS3 to /dev/tty/S0? Is there a way, through Network Config Window, to delete the existing PPP connection and then run the wizard to create the correct connection? And finally, the dumb question, once I get my connection set up, how do I dial into it? Is there a way to create a shortcut to the connection?

Please respond like I am a complete idiot who needs all of the details possible, because I am and probably do.
