External mobile modems for Linux
 

I don't know an awful lot about this field, but can anyone recommend a particular brand or model of external mobile modems (i.e. serial or USB connections, though I'd prefer the former, and using a wireless connection over the mobile phone network rather than a fixed connection to a landline) that have good support under Linux? I'm not too fussed about who manufactures it or anything like that, so long as it's not too pricey and works under Linux (even if it requires proprietory drivers).

Also bluetooth connection might be an option for you. Just need a usb to bluetooth adapter unless bluetooth is built in.

No, I'm not looking to connect to a mobile to get an internet connection - I want a modem that will dial up over the mobile telephone network as opposed to the wired BT network. Some models already exist (the TC35 from Siemens used to be quite good but is now difficult to get hold of, although I believe there's an updated version), but they don't seem to be easy to find.

Bluetooth would be completely useless, as it only has a range of a few metres. I don't want to connect devices to this machine, I want it to be able to communicate as if it was a mobile phone.

I understand, never used one of those type of devices so I can not be of any help. If you come up with something please post back.
