USB external hard drive Maxtor

I'm a newbie, and I'm curious if most major brand USB 2.0 external hard drives (e.g. Maxtor) tend to play well with Linux. For example, this one on eBay lists all the flavors of Windows and Mac, but not Linux (and while I'd assume it would work, I'd just like to make sure):

I had a 5000DV maxtor that seemed to work fine with linux. I used to use it on my windows box (as a result it was nfts) so needed to work around that with my linux box.

Am sure if it was in ext3 or something, it would of been fine though
