I use Mandrake 10.0

I have an external usb 2.0 hd and my mobo supports also the usb 2.0 protocol. Under winxp i get reall fast speeds. But under linux i think it's rather slow. The max speed i get is about 1,7 MB/sec. Is it nice 4 a usb 2.0?

What is goin on? How can i fix it?

PS My external hd is fat32 formated and my linux partition is ext3 formatted. Could that cause the slow speed? What am i doing wrong?
