external (enclosure) ide box usb 2 and firewire dvd and cd writer

hi, i had a brief look on how to mount a dvd writer which is in an external enxclosure box. but no luck so far. firslty the data.

::i am running FC2 kernel 2.6.5.1.358
::the external ide enclosure box is the microsol with usb2 and firewire ports.
for now it is connected through usb2 in 4 port usb hub. there is also a mouse connected there but thats about it. the hub is connected on a usb2 pcmcia card. all these shouldnt really be a problem as the other peripherals work fine.
::dvd drive: nec nd 3500a

you will find also below my dmesg output.

when i connect the drive on bootup the following line is added in the fstab file

/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

when try to mount cdrom1 i am getting error

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom1,
or too many mounted file systems

however, i think that it should be smth like /dev/sda /mnt/cdrom1. i ve tried it but no luck. error message is about cant read superblock.
and not to mention that i need to have write access too in order to burn cds and dvds. but i think that i will need more things for writing dvds.

anyway, my question what "should" be the fstab mount line???

here is the dmesg output (this one is when drive is already connected during bootup)

sda is for hard disks not CDROM drives. sd really means SCSI disk but usb uses SCSI emulation. The /dev/cdrom1 is probably a link to the actual DVD device ID. To verify type in a console window:
ls -l /dev/cdrom1. From the output of dmesg it looks like the DVD drive is /dev/sr0.

What type of disk are you trying to mount. dmesg shows a bunch of errors. The errors reference UDF which is a DirectCD or InCD formated CD.

I also see a sda error. I do not have any first had experience with this type of device so not sure on the cure.

You can try mounting the drive manaully to see what happens
mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom1

firstly thanks for your help as you made me think a bit... the dvd writer had an audio cd which i was trying to mount.... which is not possible.... furthremore, even if the dvd seems to be the sr0 device.... there is no such device on my /dev..... however i read some threads that people have moutned a dvd under sr0. so it appears to be in my case that the correct device is the cdwriter one.... and there is no problem mounting it with a data cd..... in read only mode though.... so how am i supposed to burn cds and dvds? well thats another thread-story. for music "mounting" here is a thread that i found useful to solve the problem....

thanks again...
