External dual boot?
 
My bios does support usb booting. Is any reason I wouldn't be able make a dual boot external drive? Two bootable partitions (ext2 and ntfs) on one usb hard drive.

Yes - you can set up a dual boot external drive. As you mention, whether or not your PC can boot from a USB drive depends on your BIOS
