External drive will not backup when formatted to VFAT32

Hi,

I am using Redhat 9.0. We are backing up to an external Western Digital 120 gig drive. When I format it to ext3 it stores no problems, but when I format the WD120 to VFAT32, and then try to store files to the external drive it seizes up?

Can anyone tell me why it's having a problem backing up to VFAT?

Thanks,
Linuxmarine

Do you have fat support in your kernel and can you mount and look in the drive.
