External CDRW not responding

I have an external USB CDRW that I have had reading CDs once, but not it is not responding at all anymore. It is a BTC brand, BCE 5224UI model number, and I am running mandrivia 2006 on a notebook. I looked in /sbin but there is no lsusb/ there. Sorry I don't have much more info about the cd writer or my computer, but If you want to know more I can type it in konsole and post the result.
I appreciate any help.
Cheers,
Nathan

To see if it is seen type ' dmesg ' to see the output after plugging it in.
