EXT3 issues
Over the past two days, ive had this problem twice. I can be using my system normaly, and it suddenly jumps into readonly and dmesg starts spitting out this message repeatitly:
EXT3-fs error (device /dev/hda1) in start_transaction: Journal has aborted
At this point, i reboot into single user, and run fsck /dev/hda1. It spits out a few orphaned inodes, a whole bunch of short reads, and a few other errors. This is a fairly new(about 4 months, and its never seen a windows partition) WD 120GB drive and i would hate for it to already be going down. it started when i started up a fresh compile of the korg 2.6.9-rc2 kernel. At first i figured it was to blame. But it just did it on my 2.6.9-rc1 kernel which ive had running error free for about a month. anyone have an idea as what could be causing this?

yes i do have an ext3 partition, but how do i know if its jfs supported? and i have jfs built as a module anyway. Ive been using beta kernels for quite a while now(idk i just like having the shiney new stuff ). i havent gotten it with any other kernels though, i have 2.4.24, 2.4.26.2.6.1-2.6.8,2.6.9-rc1+rc2. its happened only on the rc's and it only happens if its running for a long time.

I don't understand it either. I did use the old config when compiling that kernel, and i skimmed through it quickly to see what had been added, made a few minor changes. but nothing to the effect of the fs.

well what i accualy did was i typed make xconfig, and loaded the old config. I dont understand it either. Ive been using the rc1 since it came out and i havent had any problems with it so i think ill just stick with that one for now... atleast untill the next rc =)

hi therer might be some changes in the new rc
thats hy u might be getting the error
i too had a problem when i migrated from 2.6.7 ---2.6.8
the default nls for VFAT had to be specified there in 2.6.8 which i had not in 2.6.7 so i could not mount my partuitons in the newer kernel but rectified the problem later
regards
