ext2_fs error

Gedday,

I have a RH7.3 system that has been running fine, but now I am getting the following errors coming up and the system seems slow in responding to commands the first time I type them in. The error that came up was:

memory.c : 117 bad pmd 00100000

ext2_fs error (device ide0(3,3): ext2_check_page : bad entry in directory # 3457025
directory entry across blocks_offset = 6385664, inode=1923283525, rec_length=39832, name_len=216

Any help would be much appreciated as I am fairly new to linux.

thanks

is the system still booting ok? when you boot you should have the file system automatically checked by default. try changing to single user mode (type "init 1" at a console) and then run fsck on the drive - /dev/hda1 for example.

Thanks for the reply.

The file system boots okay and then does a check and then puts me into maintenance mode where I have to type in the root password. I then do a filesystem check on /dev/hda2 and I get all these misreported errors for squid directory and some other public directories. The other times I got these errors it asked me if I wanted to copy the duplicate stuff and I answered yes. This time I answered no and deleted the files and then cleared the Inodes. This seems to have worked and the message hasn't appeared this morning. So we'll see how it goes.

thanks.
