ext2 ext3 and others
some os need partition with ext3

but i don't know how to format the hard to make it ext3 since partition magic don't have except ext2 and it is tooooo old

i am using mandrake 8.2 and it is installed on ext2 and i want to change it to ext3 or there is something new but i am not sure about its name
can anyone help me

The program "mke2fs" formats ext3 if you ask for it.

to convert to ext3:

tune2fs -j /dev/hdXX

replacing XX with the relevant info of course

then edit /etc/fstab to reflect the changes

acutally you could proably use diskdrake to convert it as well, but i'd much ratehr know exactly what it's doing to avoid confusion. note that your root partitoin ( / ) won't be mounted as ext3 unless you have it compiled directly into your kernel image, which it usually isn't. other aditional partitions such as /usr or /home if you have them will use the journal tho if they have one
