Ethernet to USB converter, not USB to Ethernet

Hi group,

I'm looking for a device that I can use to send packets over the Ethernet to a USB device. The opposite of a USB to Ethernet converter. I'm looking at the Aurdino board but would like something smaller, simpler.

Any ideas?

Something like a network printer server maybe?

Hi

May I suggest that you have a chat to the guys at www.microgram.com.au

I am *NOT* making a plug for this organisation.
This company stock some unusual items, and they may be able to either supply a product, or point you to a manufacturer that might have what you need.

I beginning to think you are right. I would like something smaller, similar to the USB to Ethernet device. I'm looking at a ASUS wl500gl. Much bigger than I would like.

Or there is this:

Not really what I wanted either!

Nothing there will work.

Thanks for the pointer.

And what is this USB device you are trying to send packets to?
The only thing that comes to mind is a USB device/printer server. None of these are going to be small.
If you are trying to connect printers etc your device must be a USB host controller. The Aurdino boards from what I remember are just USB devices. Some quick googling did not find anything useful.

I am looking for a generic solution for any device. I really don't want to build something but it looks like that is my only choice. MicroChip offers some devices that may be useful? In time some manufacture will make one. It seams like a good product? Look at the Bullet2, small and powerful. If that had a USB host connection, it would be prefect.

This is close to what I'm looking for

Not sure if this will get you there:

This would work but too expensive. All so, Windozes only.
This looks like software only??

Too expensive $287.

It must be something less than $40 each. I need to connect sensors/monitors over a wide area.

Thanks for the posts.

All most there

Useful for multiple USB devices. $64

MrUmunhum

You might want to look at the link I posted again. It uses standard Cat5 Ethernet cable to run USB and not RS232.

Ideal for use with USB cameras, printers, web cams, keyboard/mouse extensions, and any other USB device. Uses standard Cat5/Cat5E/Cat6 patch cord (not included).

Yes, you are right.

Yes, you are right. It uses a CAT5 cable but not the network. If it would use the network, it would be prefect for my app. What I really want is WiFi to USB.

Thanks again for the post. It is something to keep in mind.
