ethernet not working with gentoo 1.4

hey folks,

Yes, another newb problem from me... this time with a new distro and networking troubles.. I get this error message on startup and therefore can't use my network card...

Code:

Bringing eth0 up...
SIOCSEFADDR: No such device
eth0: Unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device
eth0: Unknown device: No such device
Failed to bring eth0 up
ERROR: "netmount" was not started

What do I do to prevent this? Thanks in advance for any help - it is much appreciated :)

did you run rc-update add net.eth0 default if not then do so now, also did you edit /etc/conf.d/net ? if you dont configure that right you then may need to use "dhcpcd eth0" to get your networking running assuming your using dhcpcd and of course check to make sure you have it compiled into your kernel/have loaded the modules
