Ethernet

I was able to follow and execute the intructions in the README that came with my downloaded broadcom drivers for my NIC on my Dell Inspiron 1100 except when I went to actually install the drivers:

insmod bcm5700 or insmod bcm5700.o

An error returned:

"Could not find device", "or device not found."

Whats up with that?! Any advice? The error also said something like Hint: Improperly configured IO or IRQ.....

PLEASE HELP!!!

Knowing which distro you use will help.

Do you have an eth0 device?

As root, do

ifconfig

and see if eth0 is there.

Also check to see if you have a line like

alias eth0 bcm5700

in /etc/modules.conf

Cheers--

correct NIC????

this may sound silly but are you sure you ahve the correct drivers? I'm dealing with my inspiron 1100 right now and I think the NIC card is a broadcom 4400. search google for "red hat inspiron 1100".
