Etherexpress Pro/10 Install Problems

Im using Mandrake Linux 10.1 with kernel 2.6.8.1... I guess it goes without saying that I'm a noob... If its 2 damn hard 2 figure this out, i'll just go out and buy a cheap pci card... Well anyways, I have an old Etherexpress Pro/10 ethernet card... its ISA(yeah, I read about the small barrel of rabid monkeys...)

So I looked on the chip, and I got these sets of numbers:
s82595fx
L6033876

Note: i also found the serial number: 352624, which I used 2 indentify the card on the intel webpage, but they didnt have linux drivers for it...

I've tried installing it on linux, but when it "autoprobes," it just goes back to "manually install."

i could set the probe functions, but I have no idea how to do this...
i found a webpage with various io and and IRQ addresses...
but I dont know if i that info is right or not.... if it is, can i enter in mutiple ones, or do i have to try every possible combo out there?

You'll need a utility called softset:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...dID=1789&agr=N

I've never used an EtherExpress PRO/10 or softset; I'm guessing softset is used to set the IRQ and IO address, enable Plug and Play (PnP) (if PnP is even on this card), etc.

The module to load is eepro. Use the command:

modprobe eepro

as root.

If you don't have an old DOS bootdisk kicking around, you could try freedos (www.freedos.org). I understand that some people use it to flash their BIOSes so it would probably work to run softset.

My only other suggestion is not to get frustrated ;-)
