eth0 not detected with whitebox linux 4

last night, I installed whitebox linux 4 which is basically RedHat Enterprise 4 recompiled by white box. Only problem I'm having is it can't detect my NIC, (a realtek one) and can't get eth0 started which means, I can't access internet from that computer. I previously had gentoo and was able to surf on it. Such a shame as all other peripherals work flawlessly with whitebox. Please help...

Most likely the particular distro you are installing does not include a driver for your NIC and therefore cannot recognize it.

If you have a distro that does work with that NIC try booting it and using
dmesg | grep eth0
to find the name of the driver or of the NIC. If you have no such distro try Knoppix or Mepis; they are both good at h/w
