eth0 not detected

I am having problems connecting to the Internet. I am assuming this to be related to the fact that I cannot ping anything.

ifconfig: (Loopback output Only)

ifconfig eth0 up: (eth0 unknown interface: No such device)

Need help fixing this, I have looked everywhere. Any suggestion or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

NIC is a Xircom 10/100

do a lsmod to see which modules are loaded you may have to use the modprobe command to install the proper module. (find the proper module for your nic online somewhere). If it is there try this: "dhcpcd eth0" and see what happens. This is off the top of my head and I'm not a RH user so take my advice w/ a grain of salt.
