Just had cable access installed. eth0 initialization fails on boot. Cannot find an answer to this situation.
I'd be happy to provide any info necessary, but honestly, I have no idea where to begin.
Please help

When I build new using Internet Configuration Wizard I am letting it default to 3c501 for the device. It is inactive and I cannot seem to activate it.
Anyone?

Does your documentation for the motherboard include any manufacturer/model information for the network card?

mcleo...
No. I've consulted the manual and there is no info other than "LAN (optional) Broadcom 10/100Mbps or 1 Gbps Ethernet controller." I have left a message for Asus to get back to me via phone--their web site sucks. (Sorry about the language boys and girls)
I am really frustrated and worried that I may have just run into a Linux roadblock. I hope not! I have been able to do everything with my Lin machine and I hope that I can find an answer to this also.

Ztyx,
Hmmm... Why should I need to do that? I have a cat's ass motherboard. There must be a better answer than to go out and spend more money.
Thanks, though.

Perhaps this page might be of some use:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/...g.cgi?id=76516
is claims that your network card "is based on the Broadcom
BCM4401 LAN controller".
Also read comment #8 as it seems to be somehow what you're looking for.

You could also check out the newsgroup "a.o.l.mandrake" ince they also seem to have a long discussion concerning the network card on your mother board.
The subject is "ASUS A7V8X - Broadcom 4401 problems".

Good morning Ztyx and thank you. I am back at it this morning with renewed spirit. I'll let you know how I make out. Heck, I'll even admit to you if I end up going out buying a LAN card. lol

I've reinstalled RH8 because I was feeling like I had done too much crap to this baby. Also, I was getting errors when trying to run the "./configure," "make," "makeinstall," etc commands in an effort to get the broadcom on-board to run. Also, when I tried to install a kernel development rpm (don't know if it has anything to do with above problems) I was being told that krb5-libs 1.2.5-6 was required; further, when I downloaded krb5-libs 1.2.5-6 and went to install it I was told italready existed. Aaaaarrrrgggghhh!
Anyway, I said to hell with it and reinstalled RH* and this time I installed every damn package there is! lol. Tomorrow morning I will be back at it trying to get the broadcom 4400 driver going.
If anyone can offer some detailed ste-by-step instructions, that would be wonderful. I shall persevere one way or the other.
Kind regards,
Thomas
PS: Ztyx, I haven't bought that card yet, but if I come to the point where I admit defeat, can you (or anyone) offer a suggestion for the best card to buy? Money is no object. (Don't tell my wife I said that!)

The drivers for the broadcom 4401 are included with the A7V8X motherboard CD. A readme is included for proper configuration as well. Check your CD and use those drivers if they're there, or else email me and I can send you the tar file and readme. sr_pedo [ at ] yahoo . com Good luck!
