eth0 boot issue
Hi all,
Using Mandrake 9.0.
when I don't have my ethernet cable connected, the boot sequence hangs on detecting eth0 (I'm assuming it's the ethernet connection). It will usually wait at least 1 or 2 minutes before "failing" and then finishing the boot. Everything works after that, but it makes the boot sequence last for ever.
Any help here?
Thanks,
Matt.

You use DHCP to get an IP address normally?
120 seconds is the default dhcpcd timeout on trying to get a lease, if you check through /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/if-cfg-eth0 (or something like that), you can hand edit one of the options in there to give dhcpcd a much shorter timeout, but I wouldn't go below about 10 seconds, sometimes lease negotiation can gag that long normally, even on a clean low-traffic network.
Cheers,
Finegan

bit more help...
Ok, I can edit this file. Mine looks like this
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes
HWADDR=00:e0:b8:xx:xx:xx
I don't know how to edit it for a lower time.
---------------------
Second question:
If I don't have my ethernet cable connected during a boot, can I run this script in order to connect? If not this, how do I connect?
Thanks a lot,
Matt.
