ess solo-1 es1938s soundcard, modprobe error msg

Ok im currently running a slackware-current system but am having trouble installing my sounds card. Its an ess solo-1 using the es1938s chipset.

I have gone through and run the instructions found on the alsa project website for this particular card right to the T. But when i get to the point of commanding modprobe snd-es1938;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss in i get the error message from the shell of:

/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for
/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o: insmod snd-es1938 failed
/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/sound/acore/snd-page-alloc.o: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for

etc.. etc..

Does anyone have a fix for my problem with what im doing wrong?
