Error: Modem busy in mandrake 8

Hi

When I want to connect to internet the system tells me that the modem (motorola sm56) is busy, so I've tried all the possible connections that window gives to me, but either says busy or not founded. The modem is recognized (Ithink so) because it appears in the hardware config window. Does anybody can help me??

may be you haven't got the right permissions to access the modem. Try to connect to Internet as root and if this works you have to create a modem group that can access to the modem and add users to this group. You can look here: http://www.electronicschat.org/nonroot-dialout/

Fire up kppp > setup > modem > querry modem. If it does recognise that a modem is there you will never connect to the internet.
