error installing sierra wireless card driver Slackware 12.2

I am trying to install the sierra wireless driver for the Aircard 880E as instructed here.
but get an error on make :
Compiling sierra.c
make: *** /lib/modules/ No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [default] Error 2
Slackware 12.2 kernel.

The build directory should be a symbolic link to the relevant kernel source tree. If it doesn't exist, you can create it with ln, e.g.

ln -s /usr/src/linux- /lib/modules/,

assuming the source is in /usr/src/linux- of course. If you don't have modules for your kernel, then I'm not sure, because perhaps /lib/modules/ won't exist. In that case, you could try creating it and see if that works.
