Error in Hard Disk
Dear Friends
I am using Fedora core 5. When I am boot the system, the system displays the message "Buffer I/O error on device Sda2, logical block 0". How to rectify this error. I have no backup. Please reply. Its very urgent. Thank You A.Kannan |
Check if its really a hard disk error or a file system error.
Do a 'fsck' to check if the error is just a file system error. And then use 'badblocks' command to see if there are any bad blocks in the system. [If there are bad blocks, then u`ll have to think about replacing the hard disk]. Doing the above two in single user mode should be the best way. |
Sir,
Its a file system error. But I cannot entered the linux prompt. How to fix the problem Please reply. |
Use the Fedore 5 boot cd ..
In boot prompt type 'linux rescue' and enter rescue mode. In rescue mode run fsck partionname [ex: fscl /dev/sda1 ] for all partitions and fix the issue. To get list of partitions use 'fdisk -l' |
