equivalent of efibootmgr -n for traditional bios, without rebuild grub conf?

hello

i discovered a while ago efibootmgr -n to reboot on another efi file/choice, that is very convenient to boot another choice than grub's default one.

im looking for the same feature, with a traditional bios, without rebuild/upgrade/make grub configuration each time?

I've never heard of any such thing. Prior to UEFI, bootloaders had no BIOS access. -n is telling the UEFI firmware to do something different from usual procedure on the next boot.

What you can do is configure your own menu stanzas for Grub to display. If you do it correctly, your custom stanzas will show before Grub's automatically generated ones. /boot/grub/custom.cfg and /etc/grub.d/*_custom are the keys to doing this kind of customization.
