Epson XP-4105 - Prints fine, but computer doesn't detect the scanner
Hey all.
I am running KUbuntu Linux 19.10, and have an Epson XP-4105 all in one printer.
Printer works fine, but using xsane and skanlite, nothing happens. Printer makes no noise, nothing pops up as being detected to scan.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Are you using a usb connection to print? Assume you are using cups. Did the system autodetect the printer or did you manually set up?
I found a thread that gave this: https://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/s...h/searchModule which looks promising as far as driver downloads.

1. Did you download the scanner driver package for it?
https://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/s...search/?OSC=LX
*Type in 'XP-4105' to find the relevant drivers.
2. Is this all-in-one device connected via USB or network?

I'll do my best to answer both your questions.
This is connected through the USB.
I have a file I opened up using dolphin (right clicking 'open with QApt package installer').
File is - epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.7.5-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
I'm not sure I am using cups. I am still pretty new to printers on linux, and this is a new printer. Let me know how I can check. I don't see anything in the 'printer' section about cups.

There is, I think from that link referenced, an all in one package for both scanner and printer drivers. The file you reference above looks like only a printer driver?

You still need to install the scanner driver package (imagescan-bundle-ubuntu-19.10-3.61.0.x64.deb.tar.gz). Once that's done, you should be good to go.

On a different model I have to adjust the dpi for the scan each time I save to disk (using the Epson tool). There's probably a config file somewhere I've never bothered to look for - I use it only rarely.

IIRC, user configurations are located in ~/.sane/xsane/

If you have not done so, try starting your scanning program from the command line. It's possible it might some useful error messages might appear in the terminal.
I also found this, which may be worth a look: http://support.epson.net/linux/en/imagescanv3.php

The scanner won't be detected until the imagescan driver package is installed.

No, you need to navigate to the appropriate scanner package file. After you enter the model number, navigate to the line containing
Quote:
XP-4100 Series Scanner Driver Linux 3.61.0 All-in-one package All language 12-26-2019
|
and press the 'Download' button > on the next page 'Accept' > 'Package Download Page' > scroll down to
Quote:
Ubuntu 19.10 64bit(amd64)
|
and press 'Download'. This will download the 'imagescan-bundle-ubuntu-19.10-3.61.0.x64.deb.tar.gz' package archive. You'll need to extract the payload and then install it. Some effort on your part is required.

It works, thank you very much!
Didn't know you had to click on those links. When I got the printer set up, it was in the same layout as the .pdf files was.
Now it works great.
Much appreciated
