@fmcdavid, yea the duplex scanner works well in VueScan! So now we know the machine is compatible to a certain extent with Linux... I believe this is Epson's problem to fix their stuff to make it work well. Unfortunately, I have contacted them twice so far. The first time, they simply recommended to "consult my Linux community" for support or drivers (what kind of answer is that!?!?!)
Then I replied and said that I did, but could'nt find a working solution. They replied once again and with the exception of a few characters and paragraph layout, their answer was a simple copy and paste of their first answer... Very frustrating. I will send them the info about VueScan, it might give them a little kick to release decent drivers. I have tried the network package that was supposedly helping. No difference. Plain simple, this is rubbish. VueScan seems to be decent enough, but its price target is ridiculous. $40 for a basic edition which will expire in 1 year, or $80 for the pro version. I generally try to avoid purchasing software because of the Open Source philosophy I truely believe in. Also, I absolutely don't agree with spending an additional $40 to $80 to be able to use Epson's product. Linux is no longer insignificant like 15 years ago. With the exception of very specialized and ultra high end hardware, companies manufacturing hardware simply cant ignore Linux anymore. |
