Epson Stylus C86 printer and Mandriva 10.1

I have this Epson printer that I've had for months. I have this Mandriva OS that I've had for months. I have looked form months to get (a) to work on (b). I have, from Google, from here, from there, endless arcane 'advise' that does nothing but sit and fester. I just, simply, don't know what to do with it all. One well-meaning forum advises me to use the Gimp drivers..."the C86 works great with them." What does that MEAN??? Does it mean that I have to find (somewhere in) Gimp a printer driver, and yes, I can then print stuff relating to Gimp with this printer, and nothing else? Does it mean that I would then have a universal printer that works with all I wish to print from now on? Where is this driver? How do I find it? What do I DO when I get there? Then there's CUPS. All the 'advice columns' are great for someone who has CLUE what they are doing. I have no clue. I simply don't know where to get started. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO FIRST. I have spent endless hours following this and that bash tutorial, this and that, this and that. I still have no clue how to hook up a simple printer, to my OS, so that I can print something. Can someone...please...light that first spark-that will give me a clue-what to do FIRST, and then NEXT???!!

Epson drivers

Think I found the answer for you. You wont have to fiddle around with extra configurations either.

Go to ESP Print Pro http://www.easysw.com/printpro/

The site says, "If you did not see your printer listed, try a printer driver with a similar model number. For example, the HP DeskJet 690C Series driver works for the HP DeskJet 690C, 692C, 693C, 694C, and 695C printers."

I don't see the Epson Stylus C86 listed, but I see the C82, C83, and C84 listed. ESP said to contact them if you had any questions.

When I went to linuxprinting.org, that site said it was the same driver.

Let me know if that solves your problem and that in fact they are all the same driver.
