Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Epson Stylus C42UX puzzle

I have been using an Epson Stylus C42UX printer with my Slack 9.0 box via CUPS. No problems with - worked like a charm. My wife borrowed the printer (i.e. unplugged from my USB port and connected the printer lead to her USB port) and printed off some web-pages on her Win98SE machine using Netscape 7.x.
Now I have reconnected the printer to my USB port and cannot print anything. CUPS admin reports all is well on the system that Epson is ready to receive jobs, and there is nothing in lpq. However, even though after I send files to print, and these show up as jobs, that's where it all ends.
I reconnected the printer to my wife's Winbox and nada ... the printer doesn't even print a test page.
How can this be? I have checked cables, paper jams, switched the printer on/off and unplugged it leaving it for a couple of minutes, just in case some magic happens by and fixes it for me ... but still nothing.
This is a royal bummer because I am in need of an operational printer, and I really don't have a clue as to how to get around this.
Anybody with any experience in this sort of thing and possible fixes.

Much obliged
- Andy

Yep - there is a wonderful little app called mtink. It has utilities for Epson printers, including resetting the machine, which may well be what you need to do. Mandrake has an RPM containing this app, but you'll probably have to do a bit of googling for a version to suit Slack.

Thanks CarlyWarly
I found the file here:

(Thank's Jay )
As it so happens I went out and got another printer due to the pressing nature of needing one ASAP. However, now that I am downloading mtink I figured that I will test it out at some point on the Epson that is locked up and see what I can get to happen.
Any pet theories on why it should have locked up like that?
On the positive side, I was telling my wife that that was the "final nail in MS's coffin" and that I'll load an old HDD onto her box and figure out a way of being able to boot into either the Win98SE HDD or the Linux HDD. I'll probably load MDK for her.
I am presuming that this idea is feasible if the machine boots into the Linux HDD first to find the GRUB or LILO which would then give her the choice to boot into either Linux or Windows, is this correct?
Oh well, I can see more research is required and future questions I'll post under a separate title.
Thanks once again CarlyWarly.
Best wishes
- Andy
