Epson Expression Home XP-4100 Small-in-One Printer
Hi all. I hope everyone is staying safe from C-19 virus.
My current Brother MFC-5440cn has finally died and now needing a new AIO printer. I was looking around and found this Epson at a reasonable price for me. It offer all I need except a fax but I can do without it.
Anyone with any experience using it? I saw Epson do have drivers on their page. What are your experience with this printer? I just want to hear others who have used one. If anyone know of another AIO at reasonable price (under $100) please list it.
Thanks.

If you have cups installed you can check the 'install a printer' and see if it's covered.
I always pay at least 100 because the cheapest rips you off on certridges. I got a 50 hp that you paid 80 for a new cartridge. No fun that!

Doesn't it mean you pay even more because printer manufacturers don't make money on producing actual thing, they make money on service and maintenance, and in this case, ink. You always have an option to buy cheaper 3rdparty cartridge as long as printer would operate with it.
It's a wise thing though to be aware if a printer you intend to buy isn't subscription-based like some HP ones are where you don't own a device but own a subscription to print <=n pages a month. Modern day reality when you can't own a thing anymore now, you rent it and even pay to get your data exfiltrated.

I noticed that subscription-based ink with HP. I do not think it's worth it for me, since I don't print enough for the cost. I think it said currently get 8 months free, but with my luck, it will run into the 9th month before I'm ready for more ink.
My current printer, which is old enough to vote, is showing msg, 'Unable to Print - Check the trouble shooting manual'. And it is showing I may need to have it serviced with a shop. It's probably not worth the cost!

sure not worth the trouble, nobody has spare parts for those anymore.
the point is when you choose your new printer, make sure to check if there are alternative and WORKING 3rd party cartridges for it that don't result in printer locking you out or otherwise stalling your work. cheap ones really can be very picky.

My impression was that renting is purely for commercial outfits on colour lasers doing considerable amounts of printing for several departments.
If you're not in that territory (1000+ pages/week) why not buy a cheap one outright? I bought a mono multifunction laser for 170, and am on my second ream of paper. My print output is LOW, but the scanner improves quality over 1 handed photos for page scans. There's even a fax, but who uses that? I'm sure there's an app for it anyhow.

Cheap printers are the way to go for personal use IMHO.
I can buy a reasonable color inkjet printer for >$100 (almost any brand) and the ink costs more than that for 1 set of cartridges from the manufacturer.
I am using an HP color laserjet as my main printer that cost me <$300 new and an aftermarket set of toner cartridges is only about $85. Had it about 3 years now and never a problem (except with upgrading the hplip drivers)
I can't see anyone willing to go with the rental situation for personal use unless they are doing a LOT of printing. Manufacturers are trying to lock users into using their ink/toner with that type situation (and making a lot more on the printers as well).

Well, I ended up getting an Epson WF-3720 and like it very much. I have it printing & scanning. The wife is really happy with it!
I searched around and did see aftermarket set of toner for about $43. Is it a good idea to use aftermarket/remanufactured ink with new printers?

I think so. Cheaper ink is inclined to clog more in an inkjet, especially if you're a sporadic printer, but the only thing to clog is the cartridge. Toner for laser has no issues I've found, and lasts longer.
I knew a girl once who was 'tech support' for Lexmark. They give away printers with empty nearly cartridges, and only put a small bit of ink in them. Her job consisted in telling folks to buy new cardridges and then holding the phone away from her ear while folks shouted at her. The cartridge refillers at least filled them.

I have never had any problem with canon inkjets and refilling the cartridge myself.
Epson OTOH has always been a real pain.
With my HP color laserjet I use aftermarket toner and never a problem. Each HP brand cartridge costs about $85 or $340 for 4. I get the aftermarket toners for about $85 for a full set of four. The printer cost <$300.
And yes, in my experience it is standard practice for the new printers to be sold with about half full ink/toner cartridges.
