EPSON ES-200. Not found/recognized.

Hi. Running Mint 20.2 Uma 64Bit. (Experience level – 20 years using Linux but not a techy!). Scanner apps (Scanlite / Xsane etc) wont recognize the USB cable connected scanner Epson ES200. Downloaded and installed (I think) drivers from Epson Site. Rebooted etc. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org. Some definitive information would be helpful here.

Open a terminal and run
Code:
dmesg -w
then plug in your USB printer. Capture the output for others to review further.

Next run
Code:
sudo lpinfo -v
Is the attached printer reported here?

If the above checks output, we can proceed to checking the CUPS configuration. Did you get that far?

Post the output of this command...
Code:
lpstat -t

Ok, the lpstat output shows two printers configured: A Brother and an HP Deskjet. The lpfino output shows no sign of a USB-connected printer present. Is the USB cable ok?

Dinner time for me here in NZ. Check that ipp-usb is not impacting here...

https://github.com/linuxmint/linuxmint/issues/327

I'll check on this thread a bit later.

Not ipp-usb, but the (earlier) ippusbxd implementation. I recall it causing communication issues with some USB-connected printers and scanners. Here's some pertinent info...

https://linuxmint-user-guide.readthe...g-and-scanning

Quote:
ippusbxd

ippusbxd was an early implementation of IPP over USB. It didn’t work well and caused many issues. It was installed by default in Linux Mint 20. If this package is installed on your computer, make sure to remove it.

apt remove ippusbxd

Then reboot your computer.
So check that this package isn't present. If required remove it.

BTW, please ignore my earlier printer-specfic diagnostics. I didn't realise until too late that we're dealing with a scanner here. (Nice device too!)

On that note, does the following command find it?
Code:
scanimage -L

If you get the chance, do run the scanimage command (post #12).

Yes, rugby very popular here.. Are you located near the coast?

FWIW, similar thread (same scanner device)...
