Radeon 9000/EPoX 8RDA in Slack 9

I and a friend have been working for hours to get my Radeon 9000 pro to work under linux with 3d accel, but to no avail. We have tried everything on this site but can not get agpgart to load. We think we have narrowed it down to my board, an EPoX 8RDA with nForce2 chipset, as agpgart loads fine on his old cheap board. This seems to be the only hurdle before getting the card to work. Please help.

This is a nVidia chipset? What is the AGP controller? You can figure this out by (as root):

%> lspci

You should see something like this:

00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8363/8365 [KT133/KM133 AGP]
...
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS
...

Load the corresponding agp module for the kernel. And then load the dri for the VGA card. That should enable the 3d accel for the graphic card.

However, AFAIK, if you are using nVidia product, you will need to download the nVidia drivers and modules from their site. Coz' it does not include in the kernel.

Hope this help...

It is an nVidia chipset, we found the problem, and it is nVidia's fault, they claim to be fixing it in the next patch. Apparently, they sabatoged the support for 3d cards non-nVidia made.
