Ensoniq Soundscape Vivo
For some reason, this won't work under Slackware or RedHat. Under RedHat, it somehow managed to play CD's, but under Slack it won't do anything. I don't even have permissions to get to the CD ROM Drive when I'm not as Root. Anyone know how to fix this or if there are any drivers for it? I've searched the internet and all I can find is some driver support from a 3rd party company that only has a trial-version, not a freeware version*grrr*
Anyone know how to fix this? Here's is the prompt whenever I open XWindows:
"Error
I was not able to open your audio device.
Please check that you have permission to open /dev/mixer
and make sure you have sound support compiled into your kernel."
When booting up, my soundcard is listed as one of the hardware pieces the kernel loads up, and it even says "Ensoniq Soundscape Vivo" right above of my ethernet card. I get the same message whether I log in as root or my normal account.
P.S. How do I give permissions to all users to shut down the computer? I tried using "chmod 7755 /sbin/shutdown" but nothing changes, I still have to re-log in as root to shut down. It gets very annoying seeing that I turn off my computer whenever I'm done using it either for the day or for the night(I have no need to keep it on, I don't go on it regularly and I don't use it as a server since the connection to the network is temporary.)

For the audio problem you need to load the module used by your sound card, do "ldpci -vv" and post the output for the Multimedia audio controller, and just that, not all of the output.

It's not listed, and since I can't copy text or lines out of the terminal for some reason right now, I'll just list what is listed for lspci, since those are the only devices listed when running lspci -vv:
Host bridge
ISA bridge
IDE interface
USB Controller
VGA compatible controller
Ethernet controller
It's simply, and oddly, not listed, but is listed as one of the devices the kernle wakes up when I boot up....
