Ensoniq 1370 card plays files but not CDs

I am installing a machine with RH8.0. The Ensoniq 1370 sound card is happy playing file based sound (e.g. Ogg, Wav etc) but when I put in a CD or DVD to the DVD player, I get no sound, not a squeak. Everything is plugged in and I even moved the card to avoid a potential IRQ confliq (with the USB controller). The DVD/CD drive is a :
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1102, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

This the exact opposite problem I am having on another machine (plays CDs but not files) but thats another post.

Any help would be appreciated.

You do have an audio cable running from the back of the cd drive to your soundcard don't you? - if not, no cd audio sound. Also, open a mixer and make sure your cd input is set reasonably high.

Oh yes. All cables plugged in. I've even tried plugging CD audio into all three of the available connectors on the sound card to no avail.

Mixer is set to maximum. Speakers work.

I've now taken an SB16 card out of another RH8 installation and swapped it into the box. Same problem!!! Ensoniq is PCI bus, SB16 is ISA bus so not that then :-( Noticed that SB16 is a lot loader though :-) :-) I'm gonna try swapping the CD drive next. Good job my bit bucket has bits in!

Swapped drive and hey presto it works. Put old drive back and it works!! Put ensoniq back in .. it no work again .. sort of. CD plays until you load up xmms player and then no sound (PC sound via xmms works fine). Brother will just have to do without CD player sound.
