Enabling dynamic ticks

I have a compaq V6120US laptop (amd turion64 X2 1.6ghz, nforce board). I have tried everything I could find to enable dynticks with no luck. My problem seems to be with enabling HPET which has been a stumbling block. I have searched forums high and low, tried high res timer patches and force enabling HPET patches all of which haven't helped. I understand powertop is an Intel program, but it still shows top causes for wakeups and "Extra Timer Interrupt" is always top of the list. I have found that has to do with the Timer frequency that dynamic ticks are supposed to alleviate. What is weird is that when it is set to 100hz or 250hz, powertop shows it to be 30hz less. I know this has been a bunch of babbling. If any extra info(like a dmesg or a section of the kernel .config) is needed, I can supply it.

If anyone has any insight into this issue, and help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
