Enabling DMA - tried everything?

Hi,
I need to enable DMA for my hdd and dvd - in the bios they're recognized as ata 100 and ata 33, respectively. I've tried doing hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc but it reports hdio_set_dma not allowed or something to that effect. I'm running fc3 with 2.6.9 which should have support for my:

lspci reports:
intel 82801 ICH5 IDE chipset

I've also checked the cables - there is a udma cable connected to the two drives and the blue connector is connected to the motherboard. the middle (gray) connector is on master, and the end of the cable is connected to the slave.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Imran

you need to make sure DMA is enabled in the kernel.......!!
dont enable DMA as a module.........DMA needs to be built in......

Okay, how do I tell if it's enabled in the kernel or as a module?

Thanks
