I'm trying to use my 160GB eksternal HDD i'n Mandrake 10.
I've tried both firewire and USB. It finds my HDD and mounts it, but when i try to read it i find no data. The file system is NTFS.

my fstab:
/dev/hda5 / ext3 noatime 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec 0 0
/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2 auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda1 swap swap defaults 0 0
none /mnt/hd supermount dev=/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0
none /mnt/hd2 supermount dev=/dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0
none /mnt/removable supermount dev=/dev/scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0

In your fstab, for each of the lines containing dev=/dev/scsi/... change:
Code:
fs=ext2:vfat
to:
Code:
fs=ext2:vfat:ntfs
or even:
Code:
fs=auto
Mark.

Try it with "umask=000", and do not attempt to write to a ntfs partition.
