efax: abnormal termination (code 54) - answered

As a technical support analyst I just recently ran into this issue. The user was running Fedora Core release 5 (ks-1.06), but I feel that the possible solutions will also work on CentOS platforms also. In addition to this issue, when I tested the line I noticed that their fax machine # was coming up. My solution was to upgrade the firmware and ensure the user setup a dedicated fax line. Hope this helps.
