Question ECS Desknote A901 (Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz)

Has anyone purchased the ECS Desknote A901 and is able to get the built-in modem work under Linux ?

Please help give me the detail of which Linux distro which you used. Any trick of trade to configure the Linux/ Modem drivers to get this work.

I've done plenty search on the cyber but only got advice to try this and that but those users did not really ever use this Desknote product and, unfortunately, their advices were not really helpful...

Kind thanks,
Wayne peterson

First thing we need to know is what modem is installed on your Desknote.

...5 minute google search later

OK I went to ecs website and found that it a uses a PCTel winmodem. If you issue the lspci command it should desribe it as a PCtel HSP modem. If it does go here:

There is a Yahoo! Group on the go for Desknote users, and most of us are also Linux users. It can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/a929/

See you there!

pctel modem driver for linux

I am about to buy A901 and doing a web search. the page http://home.earthlink.net/~shepper/ECSMandrake.html has plenty of information about the A900/901 desknote. In it, the PCtel modem driver is mentioned. You can download the latest version and try it. Access http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/
