Yeah, most companies will say that they do not support Linux, but that doesn't mean that the device is not supported... the majority of drivers are not written by vendors.
I would have thought that it'd be covered by some generic V4L (Video4Linux) driver or other. See if you have a /dev/v4l or not (or something along those lines).
Typically for cameras, if its not in /lib/modules/2.4.X/kernel/drivers/usb/ and its not listed as part of gphoto, there isn't any support for it. Does this camera have an onboard storage device? If its Smartmedia or Comfpact Flash, those $15 adapters from Bestbuy are a really quick way around that problem.
Just done a little bit of googling and... have you tried installing the BTTV drivers? I thought they were part of the v4l suite, but you could try them on their own.
