Easy install Brother MFC-665CW printer scanner etc.

Kudos to Brother for their Linux support of the MFC665CW USB/Ethernet/WiFi printer, copier, scanner & fax. It was simple to install as a printer and scanner using the instruction on their web site. My distro is Mandriva 2006. I have not tested the FAX via Linux yet but I will in a few days. Frankly it is not that important to me, I can just as easily print the document and use the built in fax function.

This machine also reads digital camera media and prints photos directly from the machine. You can browse the media from any pc by ftp'ing to the printer. I'm using XSane to control the scanner and it performs well, however it is slow over my wifi connection. A direct cable connection or direct usb connection would be faster, but I enjoy the wifi convenience.

A truly awesome experience, everything worked properly right out of the box by carefully following the instructions. . .
Thanks Santa!

I was not so lucky -out of the box

I have problems with getting my MFC-665CW (Brother)printer to print pages from Kubuntu 9-04. The printers screen shows that it is recieving data because it flashed the arrows. After a few seconds it stops and no printing takes place. I got my driver from the Brother Web site and installed it. The computer knows that it there because if the usb connection is unplugged, the computer will advise you of that dis-connection.
When I plug the usb into my Vista PC, it prints like it should.

It appears that Linux sends the data to the printer, and the printer acts like it is getting data, but it never tries to print that data.
