Hi. I'm trying to set up an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A910 printer. I've already got hplip-1.6.7-6.el5_6.1.i386 installed on centOS, but I think I need a newer version. The current version of HPLIP is 3.11.7. Is there a yum instruction to update to the newer package? Your better experience is coveted.

You don't say what version of CentOS you're using, or what you've done/tried so far, so it's hard to provide a good answer. Have you tried running "yum update hplip"?? Results? If you've tried it and you're at the same version, then your choices are to stay with what you've got until they upgrade the packages in the repos, or install a newer version manually, by following the easily found instructions.

Sorry. I'm running centOS 5.6. I've tried "yum update hplip" which returns, "No Packages marked for Update". The printer (which is wireless) is newer, but when I try to add that printer, I select HPLIP connection, keeping the default "device uri," which is "hp3". When I try to select a printer from the database, my version isn't there. HP Deskjet Pro 8500 A909, is there but not 910. At this point I think I need something installed or updated.

Well, then your choices are as noted before: install newer from source, or wait until the package is upgraded.
Chances are, unless there are some really new features of the 910, the 909 driver will probably work...have you tried it?
